Wealthy Moriscos could self-evacuate while most were expelled through seaports.

Evidence

By no means all the refugees who made their own way to the land frontier with France were wealthy, but some were. The vast majority of the Moriscos were expelled willy-nilly in organized groups through the seaports. As we have seen, the ports of the Valencian coast were used in 1609. In 1610, in addition to the land frontier, a much wider range of sea routes were in use, with Moriscos leaving by ports from Seville in the west to Los Alfaques on the Ebro delta in the east. — L. P.
