War opposition trumped distaste for SDS tactics

Evidence

I joined sds in 1967, relatively late. Though much about its vociferous, defiant stance and lawbreaking tactics frightened me and put me off, it had far and away the strongest commitment of any group I saw on campus to ending the war, and by then it appeared to me that ending the war must be the highest priority of anyone with a conscience. — Marianne DeKoven, Utopia Limited, 695
