University departments align with power centers by epistemic proximity to the sciences

Evidence

I have noted that the sciences, in which I include biology, medicine, physics, and chemistry (in all their subdivisions), belong to the central domain, just as do philosophy (including its moral variant), law, psychiatry, education, journalism, history, archaeology, and even mathematics. To the peripheral domains belong such departments as religion/divinity, literature, art, and music. — Wael Hallaq, Restating Orientalism, 378
