Two ears yield summation, localization, and echo suppression jointly
Evidence
To summarize, having two ears affords us a multitude of auditory abilities. Binaural summation abilities are demonstrated with better detection and discrimination. Two ears also provides information about the location of sound in space, with the duplex theory of sound localization being an important theory describing the mechanisms responsible for sound localization. … The precedence works in concert with binaural unmasking and reduces the impact that echoes have on perception. Listeners with SNHL can have deficits in any or all of these abilities, and substantial variability is present in this population. — Jennifer Lentz, Psychoacoustics- Perception of Normal…, 1593
