Total mediation makes nature nothing but domination-available, eliminating any positive first nature

Evidence

No first nature is in sight as long as history is natural history, and in this respect prehistory. The fact that nature no longer exists also means that everything, even society itself, is only nature – that even the non-identical does not positively exist, is only negatively recognisable. Since the human beings have existed – that is, since the separation between subject and object – nature has been available for them to dominate. However, theoretically speaking, this means that all nature is available for them. In practical terms, this availability is expanded by technological advancement, which knows neither unavailability nor non-identity – this also explains the ‘difficulty of positively defining first nature’. — Dirk Braunstein, Adorno’s Critique of Political Economy, 1335
