The zine-e-zine distinction is contested and evolved from paper origins
Evidence
There is a lot of controversy in the zine world about the difference between a zine, an e-zine, a webzine, and an online magazine, as well as the origins of these terms (see Wright, “From Zines to Ezines” for a comprehensive overview). For the purposes of clarity, I use “zine” to refer to a paper zine and “e-zine” to refer to any zine published online, including webzines. Since publishers of both e-zines and paper zines referred to themselves as “zinesters,” I use this nomenclature also. — Alice E. Marwick, Status Update, 809
