The Velvet Underground debuted under Warhol at a psychiatrists’ dinner
Evidence
The band’s first appearance under Warhol’s management came on the evening of January 13 at the Delmonico—the staid hotel on Park Avenue and Fifty-Ninth Street where some eighteen months before, in a historic encounter brokered by Al Aronowitz, Bob Dylan met the Beatles. The occasion chosen for the Velvet Underground premiere was the forty-third annual dinner of the New York Society for Clinical Psychiatry. — J. Hoberman, Everything Is Now, 815
