The unmet 1865 promise of land to freedpeople remains unrepaired today

Evidence

Reverend Frazier and the other black ministers who met with General Sherman in 1865 at the end of the Civil War did not get their wish “to be placed on land until we are able to buy it and make it our own” or “to live by ourselves, for there is a prejudice against us in the South that will take years to get over.” They had no way of knowing that 150 years later, prejudice would remain and would not be limited to the South but would stalk black people across the country. — Dorothy A.
