The UN 3.6-degree temperature goal is wishful thinking detached from behavioral reality.

Evidence

The long-term goal adopted at the UN summits to slow the rise in the earth’s temperature to 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit by the end of the century is a good case in point. This goal is disconnected from the reality of current behavioral practices that are raising carbon emissions globally to record highs (Gillis & Broder, 2012). The distant goal is wishful thinking rather than an actionable, genuine commitment to the behavioral changes needed to realize that goal. Observers already acknowledge that this goal is unattain-able with current lifestyle practices. At the 2012 summit in Doha, the delegates expressed “grave concern” over the growing disparity between goals and the reality of rising global warming emissions. However, this concern did not move them to action (Broder, 2012). — Albert Bandura, Moral Disengagement, 2943
