The transition between Hegel’s two methods is experienced through the act of reading

Evidence

In the Preface to the Phenomenology of Spirit, Hegel contrasts two ‘methods’ of conceiving the proposition: the ‘ratiocinative method’ (rĂ€sonnierende Weise) and the ‘speculative method’ (spekulative Weise), stating that the ‘mixture’ of these two ‘methods’ constitutes a ‘difïŹculty which should be avoided’. What is original about the analysis here is that it presents the transition from one ‘method’ to another, whether that be from the predicative proposition to the speculative or the other way around, as something which is experienced through the practice of reading. — Catherine Malabou, The Future of Hegel, 1194
