The traditional birthplace of a famous Moroccan pasha rests on no positive evidence

Evidence

Cuevas de Almanzora: the bibliography of those who have taken this view will be found ably and honestly presented in a chapter entitled “The Pasha Jawdar’s Cuevas de Almanzora Years” in Hašıdara (1993, 17–33). Hašıdara gave this chapter the subtitle “Archeology of a Silence” to indicate that he was able to dig up no positive evidence connecting Jawdar to Cuevas (although he seems still to accept it as his subject’s birthplace). — L. • DEFINE: HaĂŻdara’s phrase ‘Archaeology of a Silence’ is a striking name for the method of documenting an absence of evidence.
