The Soviet survey sample comprised humanities and science majors rather than social science students

Evidence

Altogether 236 sets of answers were collected, of which 10 had to be discarded because of incomplete responses. The largest contingents among the 226 remaining participants were 68 philosophy, 58 physics, 37 law and 26 history majors. Their mean age was 20.6 years, and on the average they had completed 1.8 years at university. Most (62%) were males, and nearly all were ethnic Russians. — Bob Altemeyer, The Authoritarian Specter, 1617
