This separation of domestic security from international security apparatuses is of course artificial. Imperial forms of domination are used at home as well as abroad and vice versa. For instance, the CIA is supposed to operate on the global stage, yet it was intimately involved in the New York Police Department’s (NYPD) surveillance program of Muslims in the tristate area. The same surveillance technology used in Iraq in the 2003 invasion, later used by the Obama administration in Yemen, Pakistan, and elsewhere, was deployed in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
