The same practices gain distinct functions when relocated to urban settings
Evidence
I do not mean to suggest that all the costuming, body marking, and linguistic practices about to be described were limited to urban areas. The reader should bear in mind that city people always share many beliefs, activities, and practices with their rural neighbors, and city influences always extend outward. As should already be clear, my concern is not with uniquely urban activities and practices but with unique meanings and functions which these activities and practices have in urban settings. — Lyn H.
