The Rockefeller Foundation refused to fund Marcuse’s German-American anthropology project.
Evidence
An attempt to finance Marcuse’s travel costs and collaboration with the Institute of Social Research through a research project failed. Marcuse’s draft of an interdisciplinary project on `Studies in Philosophical and Cultural Anthropology’, to be carried out in Germany and the USA with the Institute of Social Research as its institutional base, had no success with the Rockefeller Foundation. — Rolf Wiggershaus, The Frankfurt School, 1987
