The Nazi-saucer myth originated among German nationalists in the 1950s before spreading in English.

Evidence

Ernst Zundel, published the fi rst of several reports linking fl ying saucers with the Nazis. In the strangest version of this tale, Nazis, not aliens, had invented fl ying saucers and, with the regime’s defeat, had fl ed to subterranean bases in Antarctica with their invention. The suggestion that fl ying saucers had been under development by the Third Reich and were spirited out of Germany appears to have emerged fi rst among German nationalists in the 1950s. This notion was quickly assimilated into legends of Hitler’s supposed escape to South America or the Antarctic. — Michael Barkun, A Culture of Conspiracy, 426
