The mass deportation of peaceful Moriscos varied sharply in violence across regions
Evidence
At ļ¬rst, special detachments as indicated by the king undertook the relocation of a small number of key Morisco communities (the villages in the vega round Granada itself, such as Ug“ıjar and Atarfe), then a general proclamation went out affecting the whole kingdom. The groups of deportees were moved northward via AlcalĀ“a la Real and on to Linares, Almagro, and Ciudad Real, where they were handed over to local authorities. Others went via JaĀ“en and Baeza to the region of Montiel. In the various regions of the Kingdom of Granada, the carrying out of the order of expulsion of noncombattant Moriscos was entrusted to a number of commanders, and of course the success of the operations differed from place to place, as did the degree of administrative smoothness (or of violence) with which this great movement of population was pushed through. ā L.
