In the final fight scene, Indy battles Mola Ram, the head priest of the Thuggee cult, above a river teeming with alligators, just as in DeMille’s Fool’s Paradise. Mola Ram falls in and is eaten alive. The closing scene of the film is a triumphant meditation on white American heroism as Indy and his cohorts return to Mayapore, followed by scores of child slaves freed by the righteous white hero.
