The Iraq war was so unpopular among Arab-Americans that recruitment ads failed

Evidence

The military advertises regularly in Arab-American community newspapers in Brooklyn, as do independent military contractors (in fact, I regularly receive mail solicitations from both). The military ads promise “quick advancement in rank” if you speak Arabic and private contractors offer “up to $160,000/year” with a small line on the bottom of the ad that reads, “All work to be performed in Iraq.” The war is almost universally unpopular among the Arab-American community in Brooklyn, and there have been few takers. — Moustafa Bayoumi, How Does It Feel to Be a Problem?
