The Institute ignored Italian fascism and had no contact with Italian emigre scholars

Evidence

Although set within the context of the more general investigation of authoritarianism discussed in this chapter, the Institut’s efforts were primarily focused on the German variant its members had experienced at first hand. Italian fascism, it should be noted parenthetically, was practically ignored in the ZeitschriJi and the Studien. Although Paolo Treves occasionally reviewed Italian books from Milan, no Italian emigre scholar ever wrote for Institut publications, evidence of the lack of communication between the two ref ugee communities. — Martin Jay, The Dialectical Imagination, 455
