The imagination linked body and cosmos and required reason to control
Evidence
The imagination, as the sum of the astra within each individual, bestowed the power to create visible images of the astra through the application of art. It was the source of an inner knowledge of the divine plan, vital action in the mundane world, and was so powerful that it could reciprocally affect the heavens whence the astra initially derived. But because the astra acted out of necessity, reason must be used to control their power so that nature could be used purposively. — Carolyn Merchant, The Death of Nature, 513
