The first Valencian deportations shipped about 5,300 Moriscos to Oran by October 1609

Evidence

The decree clearly envisages more than one relay of shipping (all the Moriscos of the Kingdom of Valencia could not conceivably be embarked at one time): in the event there were broadly three phases from various ports. The first deportations were in late September up to late October. The Spanish fleet escorted a motley array of ships of many nations from Denia. Well protected by the galleys that had been brought across from Naples, some 5,300 souls embarked on September 30th, and the galleys set out on October 2, arriving off the Spanish presidio of Oran on October 5. — L.
