The first Gandhi biographies appeared just as Hind Swaraj did
Evidence
Around the time Hind Swaraj was published, the first biographies of Gandhi were also published: M.K. Gandhi: An Indian Patriot in South Africa by Reverend Joseph Doke (a minister of the Johannesburg Baptist Church) in 1909, and M.K. Gandhi: A Sketch of His Life and Work in 1910 by Henry S.L. Polak, one of Gandhi’s closest friends and most admiring of disciples. These contained the first intimations of coming Mahatmahood. — Ambedkar, B R, Annihilation of Caste_ The Annotated…, 256
