The Corbyn surge of mass membership proved unsustainable and reversible
Evidence
Corbyn’s star fell almost as swiftly as it had risen. The indecisiveness in the Brexit saga cost him dearly, and in the 2019 election Labour suffered a historic defeat at the hands of Boris Johnson’s Conservatives. Corbyn resigned and was succeeded by the right-wing Labour MP and former director of public prosecutions Keir Starmer, under whom membership has fallen by nearly half since its Corbyn-era peak. — Anton Jäger, Hyperpolitics, 201
