The Civil Rights Movement exemplified denunciation and annunciation working together.
Evidence
So often the Civil Rights Movement found itself vehemently, and nonviolently, confronting the injustices of segregation in its many forms (denunciation), while at the same projecting a vision of a new society (annunciation). Even in King’s last sermon in Memphis, where he had gone to support resistance to a violent and oppressive city regime, he spoke of a “promised land” (annunciation) to which he saw the movement was headed (King, 1986, p. 286). — James D.
