The CIA funded unethical mind-control experiments on unwitting subjects for twenty-four years
Evidence
The inclusion of so-called mind control in descriptions of the New World Order had its origins in research funded by the CIA from 1949 to 1973. The research was for the most part conducted by scientists at leading institutions in the United States and Canada, under cover of foundation sponsorship. The subjects were patients or prisoners who were not informed of the experiments’ purposes and who therefore did not provide informed consent. — Michael Barkun, A Culture of Conspiracy, 385

Between 1975 and 1977, efforts by Senate committees, journalists, and CIA administrators led to the disclosure of many of these activities, though by that time the agency had destroyed many relevant fi les. In 1984, a private citizen sued under the Freedom of Information Act to force the CIA to reveal the names of those involved in the research, but the agency’s claim of confi dentiality was eventually upheld by the Supreme Court. Four years later, in 1988, a civil lawsuit by a group of surviving experimental subjects resulted in a cash settlement by the government. — Michael Barkun, A Culture of Conspiracy, 385
