The Cambridge City Council cited Lanier v. Harvard when removing Agassiz’s name
Evidence
The date was finally set for October 20, 2020—almost two years after the filing of our complaint and a decade after my mother’s death. In between our filing in February and that scheduled court date, George Floyd was murdered, and the world erupted in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Confederate monuments came down and white supremacist names were removed from public spaces, including Louis Agassiz. In February 2020, prior to the Black Lives Matter reckoning that Floyd’s murder inspired, the Cambridge City Council voted to remove Agassiz’s name from its neighborhoods and cited the Lanier v. Harvard lawsuit as their inspiration. — Tamara Lanier, From These Roots, 1174
