The auditory system lacks robust access to interaural phase above 1000 Hz

Evidence

Although Yost’s experiment was conducted using headphones, his results are entirely consistent with those obtained in the free field. They support the conclusion that the auditory system does not have robust access to interaural phase differences at frequencies greater than about 1000 Hz. His results also indicate that best performance occurs when the head is pointed toward the sound source. — Jennifer Lentz, Psychoacoustics- Perception of Normal…, 1520
