The antitoxics movement expanded from Love Canal to many pollution issues.

Evidence

The recent antitoxics movement got its start with the community reaction to toxins at Love Canal and the concomitant growth of awareness of the prevalence and dangers of unregulated toxic waste dumps in communities. Dumpsites and situations like Love Canal—contaminated communities with threats to human health— were the initial focus of the movement, and this focus continues. But the movement now covers a wide variety of issues relating to environmental threats to human health—not just old industrial waste sites (or new Superfund sites), but also municipal and hazardous waste dumps and incinerators, nuclear waste, industrial pollution in communities, pesticides, dioxin exposure, community sustainability, and brownfields redevelopment. — David Schlosberg, Defining Environmental Justice, 181
