The 1798 Irish rising failed from ignoring the land question.

Evidence

In 1798 these Irish Jacobins launched their uprising, which was defeated by a military force commanded by General Cornwallis (who had previously lost America). The defeat is ordinarily ascribed to unfavorable winds that kept the promised French aid from arriving on time, but a more important reason is the failure of the United Irish leaders to link their demand for a democratic republic with the struggle of the Catholic peasant for land. — Noel Ignatiev, How the Irish Became White, 133
