Tempels-inspired Africanity beliefs underpinned African socialism movements

Evidence

The conviction among African political philosophers, such as Nyerere, that African culture has something special to offer humankind, prepared the ground for what was later to be known as ‘African socialism’ or, better, African approaches to the problem of African poverty and underdevelopment. Included in the idea of African socialism were Nyerere’s Ujamaa, Kaunda’s humanism The Origin of Tempels’s Bantu Philosophy 11 and Nkrumah’s (1970) conscientism, just to mention well-known political philosophies of post-colonial Africa. — Frans Dokman, Beyond Bantu Philosophy_…, 116
