Tempels equated African Vital Force with Western philosophical Being
Evidence
Tempels believes that an ontology based on a āVital Forceā is the very soul of the Baluba culture and of African people. He identiļ¬ed this āVital Forceā with the āBeingā of Western philosophy. He aļ¬rmed that, without this āForceā, āBeingā cannot be conceived, and he further concluded that among the Bantu there is no other idea of āBeingā separated from āVital Forceā: We from the Western society can conceive the transcendental notion of ābeingā by separating it from its attribute, āForceā, but the Bantu cannot. ā Frans Dokman, Beyond Bantu Philosophy_ā¦, 199
