Tempels’s Bantu Philosophy aimed at more effective Christianization of the Bantu.
Evidence
In Bantu Philosophy Tempels makes it clear that his work was part of the quest for the best method to achieve his fundamental goal: to successfully Christianize the Bantu. It was necessary to better understand the ontology that governs the Bantu soul in order to bring them to Christ. Such an enterprise implies a critique of failed evangelization methodologies and failed “mission theologies,” while at the same time it fosters a critique of African traditional religion. In other words, the Tempels of the Jamaa movement, Catéchèse Bantoue, Notre rencontre and Bantu Philosophy is in some way a philosopher of religion. — Frans Dokman, Beyond Bantu Philosophy_…, 711
