Tempels’ book changed European and African self-conceptions despite professional criticism
Evidence
In spite of the heavy criticisms by so-called professional philosophers, Tempels has succeeded in changing the conceptions of African peoples, as held by themselves and others, especially in his response to the sordid and corrupt views held by Europeans in terms of the African continent and her peoples. In documenting the collective, implicit, and lived worldviews in African indigenous societies, Tempels breaks the barrier between the professional philosophers and indigenous African peoples. — Frans Dokman, Beyond Bantu Philosophy_…, 592
