Technocratic university reform triggered the 1968-69 student strikes

Evidence

In the winter semester of 1968-9, the situation became even more acute. First, the students in the Department of Education went on strike to protest against the first signs of a technocratic university reform that affected them, and organized alternative courses. Students of sociology, Slavic languages, Romance languages and German joined them at once. — Rolf Wiggershaus, The Frankfurt School, 2659
