Targets of racism reason via systematic heuristics rather than emotion when judging discrimination

Evidence

In two sequential studies, I have worked out a methodology to recover those knowledges and to show that accounts of racism are not ad hoc stories. Accounts are reflective interpretations of realities based on heuristics of inference from general knowledge, and on heuristics of rational comparisons - with nonracist situations (for inconsistency) and with other forms of discrimination (consistency). — David Theo Goldberg, John Solomos, A Companion to Racial and Ethnic Studies, 1496

Categorization

  • XREF: Echoes the reasoning-under-uncertainty literature (Kahneman’s System 2 heuristics) applied to a sociological context where the relevant judge is the discriminated party.
  • SEED: The methodological claim that ā€˜born of experience, accounts of discrimination are rational inference’ could anchor an article on recovering subjugated knowledge.
