Subordinate and resistance discourses can mutate power structures unpredictably.

Evidence

Equally important, however, is the recognition that within both domains there always exist subversive discourses and resisting strategies that constantly challenge the paradigmatic discourses, that is, the discourses that constitute, reflect, and advocate the central domain and its values. To obviate the importance of such discourses, or, worse, to ignore them altogether because they may not sufficiently challenge the central domain, is to miss the significance of the dynamics of power structures and how—often through unpredictable modalities—they can mutate and generate new forms of power. — Wael Hallaq, Restating Orientalism, 76
