Sublating the time form leaves an emptiness that enables imagining alternatives

Evidence

Dialectically sublating ‘the time form’, Spirit removes the tendency to question whether a wholly different origin might have been possible, whether there could be an origin and a destination wholly different from those that actually come to pass. At the stage of Absolute Knowledge, the time which is sublated – that empty time posted outside itself by consciousness giving the unfolding of Spirit, the appearence of ‘a free contingent event’, leaves us always time to think what might otherwise have been. In this fact, Hegel believes, there remains the possibility of alienation, theoretically something that is due to the feeling of lost necessity. — Catherine Malabou, The Future of Hegel, 137
