Speculative communities evolve from imagined communities by financializing their three core elements

Evidence

Nationalism continues to influence how power circulates in today’s social and political collectivities, even if the latter now seem more evanescent than ever. But, at the same time, speculative communities are suffused by the capacity of finance’s own imagination to both represent and occlude uneven power relations. … The three core elements of imagined communities were capitalist relations of production, print technologies, and the radical uncertainty bequeathed by collapsing global certitudes such as those reflected by linguistic diversity across geographical space. Speculative communities, as the subsequent chapters of the book will show, can be understood through the evolution of each of these three core elements: financialized relations between speculative subjects, digital and computational media technologies, and new radical uncertainties precipitated by the stagnation of neoliberal promises. — Aris Komporozos-Athanasiou, Speculative Communities, 152
