Sparse mislabeled photos were enough to discredit a Holocaust exhibit.
Evidence
Proof of complicity is disturbing and when it was found that a few of the photos in the exhibit had been mistakenly labelled, and were in fact crimes of the Soviet secret police, thereby allowing some Germans to claim that the German army had merely striven to protect Germany from the crimes of the Red Army and other Soviet agencies, the opportunity was seized and the exhibit was closed. Although a commission of experts found very few errors, the exhibit, differently organized and titled, was later reopened (Bartov, Germany’s War and the Holocaust). — Sherene Razack, Casting Out, 543
