Spain raced winter weather to complete the expulsion by sea
Evidence
The urgency with which the operation was now being prosecuted can be judged from the fact that, in spite of the heavy fighting in the mountains described above, embarkations continued. The risk was that bad winter weather might force a halt to the expulsion campaign, and no doubt that would have been disastrous for the whole Spanish timetable. Momentum must be maintained. The generally fine weather at sea in fact favored the Spanish fleets, and as October came to an end, further contingents sailed from the ports already mentioned. — L. P.
