Sound technology work needs acoustics, perception, and signal processing jointly.

Evidence

Not only hearing-related knowledge and know-how but also knowledge of a wide variety of other disciplines involving sound and voice are needed to work succesfully in advanced research and development. Three cornerstones, in my view, are essential for such success: (physical) acoustics, auditory perception, and (digital) signal processing. The first tells us how physical systems behave, the second how we behave when capturing sound and its content, and the last is the primary tool to implement modern sound technology. — Ville Pulkki, Matti Karjalainen, Communication Acoustics- An…, 56
