Somalia’s first legislative assembly remained subordinate to Italian trusteeship authority for a year
Evidence
The tenure of the elected deputies was three years. In spite of the new freedoms and responsibilities, the legislative assembly’s authority was circumscribed because its decisions had to be sanctioned by the Italian administrator for the first year. Further, assembly members could not introduce legislation without the administrator’s approval. — Abdi Ismail Samatar, Africa’s First Democrats, 331
