Social media scrutiny has driven recent prosecutorial race-reform campaigns
Evidence
Today, things are somewhat better, if not scale-wise, definitely depth-wise. We are experiencing a recent wave of prosecutorial campaigns centered around the ideals of impartiality and racial justice (Bazelon & Krinsky, 2018; Jackson, 2019). Society’s increasing use of social media has created demand for information about whether prosecutors are fulfilling their commitments to impartiality and fairness. As a consequence, campaign promises are being more closely scrutinized, and policy changes are being examined for their impact on the communities of color. — Joseph Avery, Jim Sidanius, Joel Cooper, Gregory Davis, Amanda N., Bias in the Law, 596
