Scaled-down abstract plans structure managerial attention from above
Evidence
This war between ecologies brings two very different attention ecosystems face-to-face. The attention of the urbanist and the town council who awarded him the project is focused on plans, models, flow calculations, anticipated returns on investment. It is starting from these basic parameters, and within their constraints, that green spaces, places for socializing, or the placement of solar panels are conceived. The territory is analysed from above, it is arranged in the light of abstract concepts ensuring that it is articulated according to an economic reality determined by financial profitability – and this is done on the basis of a reduction in scale, necessary for the architect and urbanist, which translates a metre of the real world into a few millimetres of paper (or screen). — Yves Citton, The Ecology of Attention, 313
