Scale items deliberately anchor right-wing revolutionaries away from left-wing measures
Evidence
So I added an introductory statement to keep the search focused in the direction Shils had indicated. This paragraph, and two unscored table-setters that lead off the LWA Scale, firmly equated the Establishment with the economic or political right-wing, and the revolutionary movement with the left-wing. I also used those winged phrases, and “socialist,” and “conservative” to keep people who wanted a right-wing revolution from scoring highly on the LWA Scale. (These people interest and even terrify one, but we are searching here for Shils’s monster.) — Bob Altemeyer, The Authoritarian Specter, 2916
Categorization
- QUESTION: Interesting that Altemeyer sidesteps right-wing revolutionary authoritarians entirely, acknowledging they ‘terrify one’ — a thread worth chasing about how measurement instruments encode political assumptions.
- XREF: Connects to the critique that psychometric instruments are shaped by the researcher’s political framing.
