Sartrean scholars analyzed Beauvoir’s justification argument more than her own commentators

Evidence

Surprisingly, the most sustained analysis of this passage comes from Sartreans: Anderson and Bell. Anderson, however, fails to appreciate that willing freedom is necessary for justifi cation, likely because he (mistakenly) believes that Beauvoir employs the same arguments as Sartre. However, the Sartreans generally do not spend suffi cient time analyzing all of the theoretical machinery necessary to understanding Beauvoir’s entire argument. Perhaps even more surprisingly, none of the Beauvoir scholars just mentioned work out the details of this argument. — Christine Daigle, Jacob Golomb (eds.), Beauvoir and Sartre, 215
