Sartre’s War Diary has almost no explicit Hegel references.

Evidence

However, when we try to assess the degree of infl uence that Sartre’s reading of She Came to Stay had on the formulation of his philosophy in Being and Nothingness, we encounter certain fundamental problems. Th e fi rst is that in his War Diary, widely acknowledged to be a major source of Being and Nothing ness, there are only two minor references to Hegel. Neither are there any references to Hegel in his correspondence to Beauvoir for the years 1939–40, which marked the beginning of his work on Being and Nothingness. — Christine Daigle, Jacob Golomb (eds.), Beauvoir and Sartre, 239
