Royal legislation compelled Jews and Muslims to hear Llull preach

Evidence

Llull put this modified strategy into practice in a work he composed a few months later, his Liber de predicatione contra Iudaeos. Llull himself had preached to Catalan Jews and Muslims compelled by royal legislation to listen to his sermons; in 1294 King Charles IV of Naples granted him permission to preach to the Muslims of Lucera and to Muslim prisoners in the Castel d’Ovo. He now advocated imposing the same system on the rest of the Muslim world. — John V. Tolan, Saracens, 1344
