Royal intervention from Madrid failed to stop the feud escalation.

Evidence

Orders came down from Madrid that something must be done, but little was, and each side began to muster its forces. The Moriscos of Codo called in outsiders who had a reputation as strong-arm men: Agust´ın el Falcero, Pedro el Ferrero, Joanet de Mequinenza, and others. The royal authorities now did intervene, taking over some of the local judicial powers, but still in 1588 violence and murder continued. — L. P. Harvey, Muslims in Spain, 1500 to 1614, 1197
